  1. Hello again Shenmue community. I have been inactive for some time but winter is approaching again and soon it will be Shenmue time again. I noticed that Kogami managed to fix us a Shenmue version with Japanese Audio and English subtitles. I am very thankful about that and so the translation guide might not be necessary for Japanese audio related stuff anymore. I also noticed that the previous link to the translation guide is dead and I decided to reupload it. If anyone wants to use it for another translation into his/her language the guide might still be useful. The second link is the raw word document. Someone on Metagames forum once asked me for it and I couldn't find it. Now I found all documents again. LINK: Zippyshare.com - S1_JPG_083.pdf LINK: Zippyshare.com - S1_JPG_083.docx
  2. @IlDucci Yes, it is annoying to copy paste each line seperately into google translator so this could be a help.
  3. Hello everyone, I'm quite impressed by this Spanish version. As you may know my wish is to have a J-Dub Eng-sub version of Shenmue 1 (like Shenmue 2 PAL). Are there any others who would like that version too? Would you participate in a translation project? @Sizious As you are the boss if it gets to the tools I'd like to ask you this: Is it possible to implement a feature in the subtitle editor which would export the subtitles only? I mean, if I export a subtitle file to XML format i get such a thing like this: <subtitle charid="AKIR">The wrong one=@</subtitle> <subtitle charid="AKIR">I want to know about the cartel</subtitle> <subtitle charid="AKIR">That's none of your business.¡õJust tell me! and I would like to have something like this: "AKIR">The wrong one=@ "AKIR">I want to know about the cartel. "AKIR">That's none of your business.¡õJust tell me! Such a feature could speed up a possible translation project
  4. Hello Zhao I'm not sure if I still have the word document. I used MS Office to make this (like you suggested).
  5. Don't thank me, thank Wude, Ducci, Hiei etc. I just collected and centralized the knowledge that already existed. Not necessary, just make a link to the guide and let them download the PDF. You can make mirrors to other hosters if you want. I took this hoster because it is quite unknown compared to the other giants.. EDIT: Well my guide is actually about inserting the J voice and then translating, not only translating a PAL to any other language. Inserting J voice is only optional. Hmmmmm And I thought you got involved with this HADOPI stuff they introduced in France because you mentionned problems with your ISP ^^ And the other idea was that my adress got on a blacklist. Yeah, this sounds more complicated than what I did... Yeah this would be nice.
  6. Hey guys, I updated the guide to 0.8.1 (added complete AFS list [shorted comments to fit 1 line]). EDIT: Updated to 0.8.2 (added some vending machine texture stuff to chapter 9.2.2) EDIT: Updated to 0.8.3 (remade the export srf to xml section) previous links are dead now Link: cramit.in - Tirelessly cramming your files into cyberspace! - Download File S1_JPG_083.pdf
  7. Dear Shenmue Community, After about 6 months of research, investigation and knowledge collection I completed my "Shenmue 1 Japanization Guide" last weekend. I made this guide because there was no Shenmue 1 ******* section on the Shentrad Team homepage and because I was interested in a Shenmue with Japanese voices and English subtitles and text. The guide features all knowledge you need to upgrade your Shenmue PAL to NTSC-J without losing the English text. I learned a lot of stuff about Shenmue when I worked on this and maybe it will be usefull for you too. I would like to say thank you to the following people (without them this guide would not exist today): Shentrad Team [coders of the modification tools] Hiei- [author of the original guide which I used as template] IlDucci [helped me a lot with AFS Utils (XML files), FREE0x and A0100, AFS container list] Wude [teached me the vending machine file swapping] Master Kyodai [provider of the useful disc scene list] Mestre Ziming [provider of the useful character ID list] Edit3: updated to version 0.8.3 (added IlDucci's complete AFS container list, some vending machine stuff and changed some stuff in chapter 7.2.2) Link: http://cramit.in/mubc64cciprp Edit 4: Hello again Shenmue community. 8. Hello again, I made it. I extracted both (J and PAL) AFS containers and edited the PAL subtitle file. Then I moved the Japanese voice files in the PAL folder and rebuilt the AFS (and later the IDX) again. I tested the sequence and the voice is Japanese and the subtitles do appear! EDIT: The guide is completed too. It only has to be reviewed and approved (by Hiei-?) and then it should be uploaded to the Shentrad site.
  9. Hi again, I found out what it was. The sole 0 SINF line only appears in the japanese AFS container. The european shows normally the 10 lines. They really are editable so you were right. I will try to somehow macgyver the japanese and european files together and test if the subs are displayed.
  10. Hello again, I extracted the AFS container and got this SRF file (subtitles) and I got 10 STR files (voices). I would say these are the 10 lines you are talking about. I opened this SRF file now in a Hex editor and it says about this: .....SINF................. .....SINF................. .....SINF................. .....SINF................. .....SINF................. .....SINF................. .....SINF................. .....SINF................. .....SINF................. .....SINF................. So it seems like the 10 subtitles are really existing but maybe empty. Do I need to edit it with another method? Maybe with a hex editor?
  11. 1) OK I found the remaining Amihama files after some investigation 2) Thank you so much again Ducci! I searched for exactly this file. I'll see what I can find out and add it to my guide. EDIT: OK I downloaded scinsube_21 and opened the extracted folder of A0100 and there was only the following: 0 SINF Did I forget anything?
  12. Hello guys, 1) Thanks to Wude from the Dojo I (partially) found out about this vending machine stuff. I found out how to modd the selection screen, the drinking animation, the machine in Sakuragaoka and the machines in Dobuita. I tested all machines with all drinks and it looks good. I did not find you (yet) where the files for the other vending machines are stored. Does anybody of you know which files I have to swap? 2) There is a Shenhua intro scene in Shenmue 1. It appears if you don't touch any buttons on the main screen for some minutes. In my test build it was Japanese but it had no subtitles. It is possible that the subs are not existing and I wanted to ask if somebody knows more about this Shenhua files (Which are the audio AFS containers? Are there subtitles?). 3) Who should I contact about putting the guide to the Shentrad Page? Hiei- mentionned Shendream but it seems like he has not been online for a while. Sizious is mentionned on the page but he was not responding to my mails for some time (last thing he mentionned is having trouble with this internet or maybe I'm on some blacklist?). I would like them to release it in the missing Shenmue 1 section to fill this gap.
  13. Thank you so much IlDucci, especially the part with IDX creator and the templates! I managed to mod the japanese subs of Ine-san and it was displayed correctly. The guide will soon be completed, the only thing that remains for now is the vending machine stuff but I and Wude from Shenmue Dojo are working on it. I hope somebody can release it on the Shentrad homepage because there is no Shenmue 1 section at all and I think this would be the right place for it. By the way, do you guys know about other differences between Shenmue NTSC-J and Shenmue PAL (except text)? For me it seems like its just the speech and the vending machine that is different in J. I don't see any other differences...
  14. I am confused about the HUMANS.AFS in Shenmue 1: I extracted it and opened the first pkf/s file in free quest editor and it displayed the same subtitles like a file from the FREE01.AFS Are the free quest subtitles saved in FREE01 AND in HUMANS or are the subtitles in HUMANS only pointers to the right file in FREE01? In Shentrads translation guide for Shenmue 2 they translated just in the HUMANS.AFS but in Hiei-'s Shenmue 1 guide it is said it should be ignored. I am not sure about this now ... Do I really need to ignore them?
  15. Hello guys, I am still working on the guide. I added some other chapters now and I have to find out how to swap the vending machine files to get a original vending machine in my PAL version (with brands like coca cola) Does anybody know where these files are stored?
  16. OK guys, I finished the updated version of the guide and I will try to make a demo video of the stuff I tinkered together so far. PS: I will most likely post in the future with another username
  17. Hey Ducci, Thanks for the hint. I remember moving the folders around at least once and then it worked again. I'll do further researches today... EDIT: OK it seems like it was really the folder moving thing what screwed the process, thank you Ducci! EDIT: OK I'm now translating some more samples and google translator gives me weird things: The japanese characters for Hazuki are romanized as "Hadzuki" and "Lan Di" is romanized as Rantei. What do you guys think of that?
  18. Hey guys. Sorry for beeing absent so long. I had time to do some translating to test how good my guide is and i faced some problems with afs utils for shenmue 1. It seems like afsutils is not working sometimes (reloading translated files from the folder via xml file into the afs creator tool, it does not show them and so you cant generate a new afs). I am now searching the error for this stuff. I managed to completely translate Dialog A0114 from Disk 1 (the Shenmue Intro). I played it on nulldc and it was working perfectly (lip sync and text). I hope i will soon be able to contribute a complete shenmue 1 translating tutorial to the shentrad team and i hope it will be posted on the page some day.
  19. Hey guys, I completed the guide but it is not approved yet. Does anybody want to approve it for me (Hiei- for example)?
  20. @ Hiei- I don't have to be capable of reading japanese. I can export the scripts with the Subtitles editor to a .xml file and open it with firefox. Then I go to google translate and translate all the sentences. For final checks (or if there were no japanese kanji on the .xml but some data trash) I got the original afs files from the PAL version so I have a chance to translate it right. PS: The subtitles editor only shows some data trash instead of the japanese characters. It seems like Delphi is unable to manage kanji .... Edit: The AFS files on disk 1 are largely the same in J and PAL (there are some minor differences). The main problem I saw is that the scripts within the afs files are not in the same order (f. e. Ryo says in PAL a sentence in line 4 and in J it is line 6 etc.) @ Kogami-san La version "US Shenmue" a des soustitres japonaises et les voix anglaises et je voudrais une version avec les voix japonaises et les soutitres anglaises. @Ducci I have never done any modifications on Shenmue 2 and so I don't know how I could help you. Maybe my more detailed guide has the information you were searching.
  21. Hello again, OK here is a detailed procedure because it seems like my last post was not clear enough (I am working on the guide): 1. Get a GDI form the PAL and the NTSC-J version and all tools you need. 2. Open the GDI's (one after the other) with GDI explorer and extract the whole content (make a folder for the J and the PAL and for each folder 4 additional forlders for the 4 disks) 3. Copy the extracted data from GDI 1 to a place where you want to make your editing in a folder (lets call it GDI1) 4. Go to \SCENE\01\STREAM in your extracted japanese original GDI, highlight all files in there and press CTRL + C (or right mouse button > copy) 5. Open now your extracted GDI1 folder you want to modify and paste all the files from step 4 in there (window will appear and ask you, answer with yes to all). Now you have the japanese stream in your PAL game you "only" have to change the subtitles ... 6. Open your GDI1 folder and make a copy of a .afs file (lets say A0114.AFS) to a place like your desktop 7. Open afsutils, goto File > open files and choose the .afs on your desktop. Then goto Tools > mass extraction within your afsutils and extract the .afs in a folder on your desktop. 8. Open the AIO subtitles editor and goto File > open directory and choose the folder you created by mass extracting the original japanese afs 9. Click on the label in the file list and scroll around in the subtitle list and edit the stuff in the text box. After finishing it save it and close AIO. 10. Open afsutils again, goto Tools > AFS creator > File > import XML list, navigate to your modified folder with the new english subtitles and choose the XML file in there. Then goto File > Save afs and afsutils will create a new afs file. NOTE: If you in AFS Creator mode ad only add a directory instead of choosing the XML your AFS file will be corrupted and it won't be possible to create a valid IDX file! 11. Now open idx creator (it is not necessary to check the "create with template" stuff) and browse for your modified afs file. Click on generate and look for some message like: idx successfully created. If idxcreator is not capable of generating a valid idx file most likely your afs file is screwed up. 12. Now highlight the modified .afs and the new .idx (both files shall have the same name as the original files!) and copy them in your GDI1 STREAM folder where the original files where. To test whether it worked you should make an image file in cdi format (nulldc dreamcast emulator compatible) and test it on an emulator like nulldc. 13. Open bootmake and click on the browsing button to find your GDI1 and especially don't forget to browse for your IP.bin otherwise the game will not boot in the test. Also choose a destination where you want your .cdi to be created and hit run. It will take about 10min until it is done ... 14. Open nulldc emulator (nulldc needs DIRECTX9 to work properly, make sure you get it and install it!!) and browse for your .cdi. Change the keys for better control and look whether you were successfull or not. If anyone finds an error correct me ^^
  22. Hey guys! I MADE IT! It was my fault! I have not followed the guide like I should have and so it was sure that it won't work. Here is what I found out (maybe there will be someone who has the same problems): The easiest way to get a Shenmue 1 with japanese audio and english subtitles is to take the core of a NTSC-U or PAL version and inject the japanese audio stream into it. Then you "only" have to edit all those (hundreds of) subtitles because the notebook and the menus etc. are done already. If you want to translate the subtitles according to this guide: http://www.hiei-tf.fr/shenmue1-howtotranslate-english.html you have to be carefull about this: After translating the .srf files with AIO editor I always generated my new .afs file with afsutils like this: Tools > AFS creator (inside the afsutils GUI) by adding the directory (f. e. A0114) instead of the .xml file (f. e. A0114_list.xlm) I think that was the reason why the generated AFS file was corrupted and why it was not possible to create a valid idx file (and if the afs and idx are screwed up logically there won't be any audio and subtitles in the scene) I am going to make a shenmue translation guide in pdf (based on this tutorial above with extra pictures and notes) and i'm gonna release it so that nobody has to waste his time on that kind of problem again. I will also now continue my experiments with shenmue 1 translations to see whether it would be worth to make a modd or not and how much resources it would consume. PS: About Sizious... I contacted him last year about the same issue but now as I found the solution he doesn't have to waste his time over that again ^^ I will write on sunday or saturday again!
  23. Forst of all thanks for the fast reply! After testing the PAL version with the complete japanese stream i began modifying the japanese original stream folder. I did not wan't to insert the .srf's from the english original because I read that this will result in having no lipsynch or errors because of wrong amount of lines (f. e. translating a japanese sentence which had 1 line in english by using 2 lines for the english one). I am not sure whether this problem results from corrupted files (.afs / .idx) or wrong modification operations. I am looking forward to any kind of answer!
  24. Dear metagames forum, (My french is bad so I'll write in English if this is OK for you) I am experimenting with Shenmue 1 to get a version with japanese audio and english subs (something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLCLgDiMmfs) I got the GDI's of the game(s), the tools and this tutorial: http://www.hiei-tf.fr/shenmue1-howtotranslate-english.html but I have some problems with this now. I am experimenting with chapter 12 in the tutorial and i managed to get a PAL version with injected JAP Streams working on nulldc with perfect audio and lipsync. But then after trying to translate the japanese into english subtitles there is no audio anymore (it does not work). So I'd like to ask now, whether there is someone here who had similar problems and whether there is a solution for this problem.
